OPS Bliksemactie

In January I was asked if I wanted to do a field for Blue Cities edition #4. Well, naturally! Helping to cover different cities all over Europe is a fun plan to be part of and Amsterdam cannot be left out of the picture.

Looking for corridors around Amsterdam I found the lines between Marken, Zandvoort and Woerden. The main drawback was the cross through the top of Haarlem's favorite farm: Kenau Park. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I managed to find some nice rows which would make 29 layers of an estimated 580K MU per layer whilst still having relatively narrow corridors. Time to farm some keys...

We decided we would be flip fielding as well, so we farmed some extra keys. Of course, more keys is always better, so we ended up with nearly 1000 keys. Nice work agents!

Recruiting agents went swiftly. A couple of new names joined the ranks, who didn't have their black illuminator badge yet, so this it all started to come together nicely. Also I managed to find a great team of operators willing to lead the ops through the darkness and into the light. Thanks!

On the day itself the weather was abominable. Sorry Schoentoon, this time you were right to complain. But as we all know, this was an exception. Ops organised by Fortifer are usually accompanied by sunshine, cozy temperatures and a mild breeze to blow away the light sheen of sweat accumulating on the agents' brows. This time a gale force wind and torrential rains hammered down on us. Also cats. Also dogs.

After laying the fields on CP (and a couple not on CP) we started flipfielding from Woerden and the black illuminator-badges-counter started to tick. An ENL showed up but soon disappeared again without doing much. Then an ENL agent, whose main interest seems to be brewing, arrived in Woerden and started shooting down any blue portal with fields he could spot. Luckily for us this agent apparently does not understand the concept of flip fielding very well. He helped us either by shooting down the portals or even flipping them for us, saving us quite some Jarvis viruses. Thanks agent, you know who you are, tiger!

After a while everybody was cold and wet, and it was time for bed so we decided to head on home, but not after giving a last agent the 8th black illuminator of the day from Zandvoort. However, there were still several keys burning in people's inventories, crying out to be turned into fields with their tiny, coppery voices.

Several agents pledged to set their alarms to UNGODLY-EARLY mode and drive out for, what else, moar fields! This we did, and happily enough the corridors were still pretty much intact. Just before 10h we started making fields again and got 1M MU up before CP. Not a lot more was possible since a pesky little blocker popped up in Haarlem. Not at all surprising considering the portal density of the area we linked through there.

So in the end the ops was a success. Agents got badges and happiness (and wet) and new acquaintances were made. Thanks to all the agents and until the next ops! (Don't worry ENL, it won't be soon. Not like, next weekend or anything. No really, it won't.)

74 fields over Utrecht totalling 9.7 million MU
8 illuminator badges (4 gold, 4 platinum)

"I suggest a new strategy, Artoo. Let the Wookiee win."

Getting to know a new playing area is fun and challenging. Many new portals and agents with different daily routines, different blue/green areas, different possibilities for fields. Diving in headfirst I decided to attempt a little field over Utrecht. After some drawing and rallying Ops Wookie was on its way.

It turned out there are many enthusiastic RES agents in the area, ready to do some fielding. In no time we had many agents on board and more signing up as the weeks progressed. Key farming is a breeze nowadays with the increased drop rate so all that remained was a smart plan for clearing the corridors and applying guide links.

With everybody in position we were optimistic that our corridors would be clear within half an hour. But alas, them pesky blockers kept popping up on the south and east corridors, forcing us to deploy more and more teams. Finally, two and a half hours later our first field went up from Odijk: 129784 MU.

Soon after our first field ENL showed up on our doorstep in Loosdrecht. Anchors were flipped, bursters were fired, AXA's were deployed making our life generally less relaxed but never succeeding to put an end to the fielding. We even found a capsule filled with X8, presumably dropped from an ENL -backpack- account.

After switching corners from Odijk to Woerden ENL were arriving there too. Luckily we had nearly 30 agents on the anchors by now, making sure we could keep on fielding, albeit a bit slower than planned. Next we made several fields from the corner in Loosdrecht and thought we were done. This was around 2am, five and a half hours after the operation started. However, agents therokscom, DJApollo and Yoshi4184 decided to wait for portal immunity to pass and returned to shoot the final six fields from Odijk just before 3am.

Shout out to all the agents who participated in this operation: 4eversmurf, aenemrah, AlmightySteve, AntRoe (platinum illuminator), Buizerd, Disconnected404, DJApollo (platinum illuminator), DrScarpetta (platinum illuminator), Eagle1982, Esileensanus, Fortifer, hgdhag (gold illuminator), iffel, JeBuurman, Jefvhal, JeVriend, LdeB, Luckydazzle, Madgick, mila8810 (gold illuminator), Munch WillbeBlue, Onkie (gold illuminator), parakoort (gold illuminator), Realrouge, RubyRedhead, stargate88 (platinum illuminator), Sv3nvs, TheFons, therokscom, Tymen, volharder, Yoshi4184

Many thanks also to all ENL agents who took the time to block our corridors and battle with us: Without you this would be a boring game indeed.

OPS Osdorp Hapsnap Field

13 November 2016
By @Fortifer & @Bal512

"Niet omdat het moet, maar omdat het kan"

6 x 23k MU fields

We decided in the afternoon to make this field, since there were only, 3 green blockers and 2 blue ones. Only having keys for Kerk Schiphol we went to ACTA to farm some more. Bal512 would clear in Geuzenveld and Osdorp, since that's his normal playing area. Fortifer would hang out in Halfweg until the right time to clear and then move to 'Wipslakkies' in the harbour area to set up the field links which Bal512 would close from ACTA. During the day some more green blockers appeared, but manageable. Farming started at 20:30, clearing at 21h, fields went up around 22h. Nice.

ENL agent @Erwin1975 decided to travel to Kerk Schiphol to kill the field. Fortifer noticed this on his way back from beergress and decided to drive out, retake the portal and reshoot the field. Erwin1975 noticed and shot some extra blockers from Bulderbos which had to be cleared first. So back in, and towards ACTA to close the field from there to Kerk Schiphol. This happened, but within a minute Erwin1975 killed the field again on his way back from Bulderbos. Anyway, that made 6 layers in total and a lot of fun. Erwin, thanks for the opposition!

OPS Griend un-greened

The island Griend bears a single, hard-to-reach portal frequently used by ENL for field operations. The island is currently no longer inhabited (there used to be a couple living there, watching the birds) and even the yearly excursion can no longer be made. So the only way to reach the portal on Griend nowadays without trespassing is by airplane.

Friday August 26th, the day before the Via Lux anomaly I decided we should better be safe than sorry this time - the portal was used during Aegis Nova - and make 'Vogelwachterhuis Griend' blue. Several phone calls and hangout messages later a plane was arranged and after lunch agent @handleiding and myself (@Fortifer) were on our way to Paracentrum Texel. We missed the intended ferry due to a crazy amount of tourists to Texel but luckily there was a crossing each 30 minutes this period so we could still make it in time.

The weather was great for flying, sunny and clear so we could see all the Dutch wadden islands stretched out before us.

In the words of agent @handleiding:

"We had to make several passes before we could neutralize the portal. Deploying was the second challenge. Once the pilot got the feeling of flying in reach of the portal he managed to bring us directly above it three times so we could do our thing."

"I was really thrilled that we went on a plane to do what only few Ingress players before us have done. I can't express the feeling I had when we accomplished our goal. The most difficult thing was to get the resonators deployed at a nice distance, because the speed was limiting us to deploy just one at a time. Special thanks go out to our pilot Lars, because it is really, really difficult to get in range of a portal when flying at 1500 feet without seeing the target below."

OPS Veluwe

Sunday May 22nd 2016

TL;DR: 497 fields over the Veluwe totalling 85 million MU, yielding 11 black illuminator badges

Timelapse
Ingress Report!

"Sergeant, there's sand in my food..."
"Stop whining, soldier, you're here to defend your country!"
"Yes, but not to eat it!!"

We decided to make fields. Lots of them. A good row of 15 portals was found in Dieren which together with Maarn and Hattem formed a nice right-angled triangle over the Veluwe area. This is an area well known for its forests, sand and rabbits. After drawing out the details and rallying the first agents the task of key farming commenced. We planned to make 660 fields and needed nearly 800 keys. In the end over 900 were farmed. During key farming agent @Beechnut encountered a family of wild boar in the forest.

The fielding was estimated to take quite some time so we decided to start clearing late at night in the hope we would not be interrupted. During clearing agents @Ghosthaven and @WolfNyx witnessed a fire in a hedge in Hattem which was put out by the local fire brigade (see photos). Agent @Skiplok walked 45 minutes, and back, all alone in the dark to clear a single portal in an area unreachable by car. Our hero!.

It turned out ENL was also doing some fielding of their own so we decided to let them finish whilst starting our own clearing as quietly as we could (which of course is impossible). ENL noticed our efforts and put up some good opposition by driving around and shooting block links. After ENL went to bed and all block links were removed, fielding finally started around 4:30, 90 minutes later than planned. The layers turned out to be around 170k each. Nearly 4 hours and several rounds of fielding later we had made 497 fields totalling 85.189.315 MU. Eleven of our agents achieved a black illuminator badge.

The following agents partook in this operation: Almighty Steve, Bacos, Beechnut, Boedha84, Buizerd, cappieb, CradleOfSmurf, Dennis33NL, Diabolin, Eagle1982, Fortifer, Ghosthaven, gstailcat, Hessley, Hiawatta, ikketoch, Imda, Lam3Ass, MadameMedusa, MisterIT, MrDisken, mustangfreak, PieterBass, ppw1973, PrincessLaurie, Ranney, RubyRedhead, SamtheChemist, Skiplok, Snowman174, taikwondosmurf, tempelier, TheRealShadow, Tuimel, Viooltje, WolfNyx, Yoshi4184, Zoefzoef.

OPS Amsterdam7

Saturday April 9th & Sunday April 10th 2016
12 fields over Amsterdam totaling 3.9M MU

"There's nothing scarier than a clown after midnight" - Alfred J. Hitchcock

Prelude
This operation was conceived long ago, in an innocent time. In a time before finding out that using unreachable portals for fielding is not necessarily a good idea. In a time when ENL would not rush out of their homes and into their cars as soon as clearing began. Alas, this time has passed and the world has become a desolate and harsh place... (a tumble weed rolls by in the background)

The Field
Using the portals of Oud Valkeveen we found a nice corridor into Amsterdam over the 'IJ'. The southern anchor along the A4 seemed relatively secure and completed the field with easy corriders along Schiphol and under Amstelveen. There were no big rows of portals to use on any of the anchors so the idea was to settle for 49 intermediate and 7 final layers. With an estimated 300k per layer that would mean about 15M MU to be captured. Yummy!

The stage was set for a relatively simple fielding operation over....Amsterdam? Again?! Yes! Again!!

D-Day
After the usual preparations D-Day came and agents were anxiously anticipating the starting time when suddenly we noticed our Oud Valkeveen portals were no longer the correct (blue) colour. ENL @SirHomie was apparently enjoying a nice day at the theme park and capping our anchors. Stress! Oud Valkeveen closes at 17h. Luckily for us RES @Jingim was also enjoying a nice day at the theme park and after talking to us, decided to enjoy it right up to closing time, capping back our anchors and saving the day. Thanks man!

Clowns in the woods
To reach some of the portals in Oud Valkeveen RES agents @Buizerd and @Galanas had to work their way through the woods around the back of the park. To ward of ticks the agents applied some Advantix droplets in their neck areas. Better safe than sorry guys. The 'Bon Bear' portal could be seen through the gate in all its creepyness. Probably clowns too (did I tell you my clown joke yet?).

Anyway.

Holding pattern
Clearing commenced and things started to get hairy. What should have been 45 minutes of clearing stretched on to 60 then 90 then 120 minutes as more and more ENL agents started shooting dedicated block links. Honorable mention must go to ENL @Barreman who kept driving around in a circular holding pattern shooting block links to the island of Pampus whilst RES @Christarius was in hot pursuit cleaning them up. The ENL agents we noticed blocking us were: Barreman, Bowlingbal, Dikkedeur, Fur, Papasam, PersVC, Siemp, SirHomie, Socrates, Synerg1sm, Tjaap, Nibbix, Zaansgroen. Good job guys.

Armageddon
So in the face of all this opposition we decided to abandon our field for the night, but not before agreeing to set our alarm clocks early the next morning and finish what we'd started. Most agents were up and about by 7:45 AM to clear the remaining blockers of last night's armageddon. Again some ENL activity started stirring but too late this time, at 9:27 we managed to make our first field and we commenced with our link plan.

Rise and shine
However on the northern anchor ENL @Siemp had also gotten out of bed and joined our agents on the anchors. Our trusted chillipepper RES @Euxi attempted to divert him with a mexican head lock but to no avail. The anchor went down and ENL @Barreman who apparently also has the nasty habit of getting out of bed early shot a new block link to Pampus (damn you, Pampus!).

Lies, damn lies and...
We managed to make 12 fields with a total of 3908919 MU captured, one black illuminator badge and one gold liberator badge.

Agents
Thanks to the following agents for making this daunting but rewarding field: 88CCFF, BlueFluas, BoyAFCA, Buizerd, Cristarius, DaiyaDawn, Damoni, DoctorFoxy, ElAwrence, Euxi, Fortifer, Galanas, Iffel, Jingim, Oilpink, SAHillie, Shad0wdancer, Shinsetsu, Zorglubxx.
