OPS Pillage and Plunder

Thursday January 14th 2016

Summary
Keys travel and travel and travel and in the end land somewhere. In this case they landed in Fortifer's inventory, which is a cosy place for a key, lots of friends around. Keys make links, and links make fields. Making fields accross the ocean is quite a different ball game than over land. Planning operations in summer and setting the date in the middle of winter is... well... cold! It's a shame some agents on Terschelling have frightfully bad manners on comm. Please be a good sport when the other faction lands a successful operation!

OPS Sir Lancelot

December 30th 2015

Back in July 2015 Madgick, Fortifer (and several others) created fields with one of the anchors in an area which was closed-off at night. We noticed this actually stopped ENL from taking down the field at that anchor and the plan was born to create a field with all anchors in unreachable areas. Someone mentioned castles and MunchnetNL coined the name 'Sir Lancelot'. Fortifer started scanning the area for suitable castles and found Groeneveld (Baarn), de Haar (Haarzuilens, near Maarssenbroek) and Muiderslot (not really a castle, but close enough). Buizerd liked the idea and pledged his allegiance, and so the three musketeers Madgick, Fortifer and Buizerd set off to find this holy grail: the unbreakable field!

Soon it was discovered all the castles would close at 17pm on December 30th for 2 days. We planned to farm the keys in the summer during a cultural visit to enjoy our country's heritage. We would start gathering a clearing crew in December.

Actually going on a cultural visit to enjoy our country's heritage did not turn out to be within everybody's comfort zone. The Muiderslot keys were still lacking well into December so after some asking around AntRoe was so nice to pay this fortress a visit and farm the keys for us. In the meantime Fortifer and Buizerd were busy rallying help in the difficult areas of this operation, most notably Maarssen and Bussum, both towns we were linking directly through the middle of (yes, this is a correct sentence). The holy grail would definitely not be attained without much effort.

Also joining our forces was wizard Oilpink The Great to keep an eye on intel and guard us safely through swamps and past dragons. Wizard Oilpink would be assisted by knights Wruh and Galanas in this task.

Finally, after what felt like ages of waiting and anticipating, the day arrived and clearing started, a bit on the early side. Knight Wruh was ready to shoot a blocklink along the west side of the field. In Maarssen city emerging blocklinks were removed by Realrouge, parakoort and Fly59 througout the day. The indigo damsel katoo appeared on their scanners fielding together areas that had just been cleared. Realrouge and parakoort ventured forth to toss the holy handgrenade at her but were spotted by the dark green knight Sv3nvs, which probably aroused his suspicion. After katoo ran away we shot some blocklinks around the outside of the southwest corner in an attempt to secure our cleared zones.

This also might have set off some alarms because around this time the lovely lady from the lake DaiyaDawn emerged in Vreeland to seduce our trustworthy knight Stargate88 who was clearing that area.

3:08PM DaiyaDawn:@stargate88 sorry I hurried off so quickly, if you're still around want some coffee ^^'?

Whilst they were having coffee and undoubtedly reciting poetry to each other (for one hour) new blocklinks were shot to a portal in Vreeland from inside the fielding zone. Luckily Stargate88 survived DaiyaDawn's coffee and cajolery to emerge, fit as ever, and flip the portal at the exact right moment.

Along the north side of the field there were also some minor distractions. Knights NashOner and Reinieros cleared the blockers there swiftly. Knight Galanas noticed a tiny forgotten blocklink in Bussum, which Reinieros quickly removed. Each operation seems to need at least one tiny forgotten blocklink.

In the southeast knight MartenK cleared several blockers and was standing by in case of sudden emergencies.

Exactly at the planned time of 16:30 all edges were clear and fielding could commence. Knight Madgick was in Muiderslot, Buizerd in Groeneveld and Fortifer was in de Haar together with Realrouge. Three layers were created when suddenly a horde of barbarous tribesmen (CPTpruts, Gustafrog and others) broke from the woods at Groeneveld (maybe it's in the name? Groeneveld = Green field) and flipped our inner anchor. Not much later the dark green knight Sv3nvs invaded de Haar as well and efficiently took down that corner, even fielding it shortly thereafter.

This meant our operation was over and the quest to keep a large field up for two days had failed. However we had a lots of fun, learned a lot and are all ready for the next operation!

Our round table consisted of: AntRoe, Buizerd, Fly59, Fortifer, Galanas, Madgick, MartenK, MunchnetNL, NashOner, Realrouge, Reinieros, Stargate88, oilpink, parakoort, wruh

Control Fields created: 80901, 80411, 80633, 82086 MUs, for a - not so grand - total of 324031 MUs.

OPS Battle For Pampus

Pampus is a small uninhabited island in the IJmeer with 12 portals on it. It is especially interesting for Ingress because it closes for 5 months each October. This year, leading up to the closing date all portals were blue and we were planning to visit the island on the last day to make sure they stayed that way. However, due to extremely foggy conditions nobody managed to access the island that day, so Pampus went into its winter sleep all blue.

Then ENL agent @Barreman managed to flip several portals from an aeroplane. A couple of days later @smurfenstein flipped some more, presumably from a boat, benefiting from an enormous GPS drift and even managed to link 5 of these portals together - an amazing (not to say unlikely) feat. Note from ENL agent @JamesCleaveland: Smurfenstein is not a known agent within the Amsterdam ENL community and a suspected spoofer.

Resistance were interested in making the island blue again for operation BlackLight so all sorts of ideas were generated on how to re-capture Pampus: smurfs in wet suits, speed boats, ramps, drones, boomerangs... In the end, following the dutch proverb 'beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht', I decided to flip Pampus from the air.

Lelystad airport was the best option and an aeroplane was booked for December 11th, the day before operation BlackLight. Joining me on the flight was @AgentRoka who wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to flygress for the world.

The weather was not looking too good though. Low clouds and a stormy front closing in on Flevoland. After some debate we decided to just drive to the airport and hope for a window of opportunity to fly our mission.

We were lucky, the weather gods allowed us an hour of clear sky so we took off and flew to Pampus. Flipping portals from an aeroplane is HARD! As soon as we got confirmation from the operators on the ground that the necessary portals were flipped we headed back to base, our veins pumping with adrenaline. This was so cool! We did it!

The story of what happened the next day during operation BlackLight can be read in the sitrep. It's a sad thing that spoofers are able and willing to thwart large operations from their armchair with a treacherous mouse click. This wastes months of preparation, hours of farming and a lot of money but most importantly it ruins everybody's enjoyment in this game and destroys our trust that we can play in a fair arena. Cheating can ruin online games completely, I sure hope this does not happen to Ingress.

But I digress... Flipping portals from the air was a huge kick! A+, would try again. Thanks to all the awesome Ingress players that make this game such a fun ride. Thanks to @AgentRoka for taunting the blue skies with me. Thanks to @Oilpink and @MunchnetNL for keeping an eye out from the ground. Thanks to our pilot for landing us safely (on the second attempt). Thanks to ENL agent @Barreman for giving us a good reason to do this.

OPS Code Orange

 Operation Code Orange

Sitrep by End3rw

TL;DR: We survived and had great fun! Created 121 fields, earned 938K MU and over 370K AP.

/Crazy shit HO extract/
Fortifer> I’ve got a great plan for a BAF
End3rw> When do you want to create it?
Fortifer> Euh
Fortifer> Insert image here for a mind boggling nice BAF (no sneak peak previews though, so just imagine something nice and be sure it will be better)
End3rw> Actually I would like to do some Ingress by bike (and leave the car at home).
End3rw> Tomorrow evening?
Fortifer> I will sleep over it

Next day

Fortifer> I’ve got a great plan for a BBAF (bigass bike field)
End3rw> Cool
Fortifer> We’ll deploy a crosslink on the northside of NM, bike to AB and shoot 11 layers, jarvis and go to the next portal, and repeat
End3rw> Euh sounds good (no clue, but in life you have to take some chances)
Fortifer> We just have to farm some keys for these portals (insert image here with an absolute mess of planned linkes and marked portals everywhere)
End3rw> I am on my way. I only do not know where to go… (19.45 hours)
Fortifer> Where are you?
End3rw> Euh, still around my house, got a little bit distracted. (20.15 hours)

Then we got really started, we farmed the portals at the east anchor, took us just over 1.5 hours to get 10 keys for each portal (worst hack/minute farm ever). Then of to the west anchor taking a bike path next to the Nieuwe meer (which is a large lake on the south side of Amsterdam for anyone who doesn’t know it). This journey proved to be exemplary for the rest of the evening. The wind was turning into an actual storm, which could pick op good speed with the open area of the lake. Around the lake is the Amsterdam Forrest, therefore no lack of supply of freshly broken branches for on the road. And of course no street lights. To top things of, we had to cross an area with Scottish cattle (big cows with long hair and even longer horns). We survived in still good conditions.
We split up after the first farm round to do some more farming while the Fortifer removed the 2 solo blockers, I farmed some keys in a deserted area west of the Nieuwe Meer. Not completely deserted, I had the occasional car to drive me off the road into the grass. But again we survived. Bit tired now (23.42) but still going strong.
We deployed our first links and drove back to the east anchor. Yes again through the cattle area, and yes we ran into the monsters, and no they did not move an inch and were just chewing their food. So we survived again but the storm was taking its toll, around 23.56 we deployed our links towards the west anchors.
Of to our south anchors, in Amstelveen, in the middle of the Amsterdam Forrest, around half an hour bike ride. When we arrived we started to feel just a bit lucky to have been able to avoid most fallen branches, specifically the larger ones. At 00.30 we created the first set of fields, we repeated the fields at 00.40, 00.42, 00.54, 01.00, 01.10, 01.15, 01.25, 01.30, 01.37 and 01.42. Like some famous Dutch soccer player said, every disadvantage has its advantage: we were now that late into the night fielding that nobody bothered us in the time between the Jarvis destruction of the field and the new creation of the field.

With 11 times 11 layers of fields we were able to accumulate 938.751 MUs, together with the unexpected AP doubler we earned 378246 AP just for the fields. Which made me reach Level 11. After some celebrations we ate some wel deserved candy. To be honest, our children earned those candy bars with singing pretty songs at Sint Maarten (Dutch version of Halloween trick or treat). Then we decided to see how we could get back, since neither of us had any clue anymore where we were after driving as fast as possible from one portal towards the next. This turned into a nice final surprise (guess…) yes, 45 minutes bike ride straight through the forrest again. By the way, Dutch forests have paved bike paths some of them with street lights, so although it sounds dangerous to go through in the middel of the night during a storm it was not that dangerous at all. Just a bit inconvenient and very tiresome. Finally I arrived at my home at 02.54. You do not want to know where my body ached after riding my bike for 7 hours straight, but you can imagine.

Now I know what the weather guys mean with a code orange forecast: Great Ingress weather, but try to stay in the city with lots of sheltered area’s. Preferable on foot since that reduces the chances you get blown away.

Did have lot’s of fun though. And after a recovery of at least three days I think I will be ready for some new crazy shit playing Ingress.

OPS BuMuBo

October 2nd 2015

Linking through and around Amsterdam is always fun. Why not link through the south area which has some nice green corridors that can be cleared without viruses? This was the premise for the BuMuBo operation (Bulderbaan - Muiden - Bodegraven).

The field was planned for only 4 layers and within two weeks. A short time considering many of the areas we would link through were unknown territory for us.

After quick liaisons with the local agents and farming/distributing keys to the fielders we were ready to go. The operation was swiftly executed and the fields created exactly on the planned schedule.

OPS West Blanket

September 9th 2015
Agents Fortifer and End3rw

The plan was to create a large field right along the Amsterdam ring west, using existing natural corridors. Then it came down to waiting for a day that these corridors would be as clear as possible. Finally September 9th this was the case. After dropping requests to keep the corridor in oud-West clear we started clearing by car around midnight.

In the meantime some blue blockers started to appear in the baarsjes. After a P.M. to the agent, this stopped.

At around 7am MrTtap killed the fields at the Bos en Lommer corner. We were planning to be around and immediately shoot the fields again but we were too tired and asleep. By the time Fortifer made it back to Bos en Lommer (around 8:45) there were already several blockers popping back up and making the field again was alas no longer feasible. Back to the drawing board.

OPS Groter Mukum

9.5 million MU, 16 layers
Sitrep by @Fortifer

On Saturday August 15th 2015 a group of around 30 resistance agents created a 16 layer onion field between Mijdrecht, Heiloo and Dronten. The layers were around 600.000 MU each, for a total of 9.5 million Mind Units, covering all of Amsterdam and many surrounding towns in a thick, cozy, blue blanket. This is the Sitrep.

The operation started in June as 'Mukum' (Note: Mokum is another name for Amsterdam used by the inhabitants), then became 'Groot Mukum' and finally evolved into 'Groter Mukum': A nearly 10 million MU onion with 6 portals per corner, could we do it?

The fielding team in Heiloo consisted of SAHillie/bigpauli who first cleared Westpoort and Zaandam and BlueMerle/TheBoldHacker who cleared Alkmaar and Heiloo before moving to the corner portals.

Agents in Zaandam and Assendelft had prepared anti-blocking links and were continuously in touch during the operation. All clearing in this area went very smoothly, but for a blue blocking link which was apparently created by the son of one of the clearing agents (resisting authority - who can blame him?).

The Almere clearing team focused on the A6 highway along which the southeast links would run. In the days before the event several anti-blocking fields were created and potential blocking target portals neutralized. The local RES agents were briefed not to create any new links, thanks guys! Despite poor Internet with 20 seconds per XMP and frantic ENL recharging the last blocking green fields were successfully removed. At 22:00h the Almere agents were in position to flip the last blue portals on the signal from our operator. When several new blocking links were reported they managed to clear these in no time. Almere clear!

Hamunatra was in Lelystad to clear a single long blocking link. Suddenly ENL Urk linked to Pampus, blocking the Heiloo-Dronten link. The fielders in Dronten had to drive up to Urk to clear this. With instructions from the local agents they took the shortest route to the two portals that had to be cleared. Hamunatra went to Swifterbant in order to shoot anti-blockers to Den Oever right after the blockers from URK were cleared. This worked, but ENL soon came to Swifterbant and removed one of the anti-blockers. Hamunatra snuck past ENL to bring the anti-blocker back up. By this time the first field link from Heiloo to Dronten was created and ENL departed from Swifterbant to destroy it.

After creating the first link from Heiloo to Dronten, SAHillie could not link to anything anymore! After many minutes of panic and confusion it turned out SAHillies scanner was malfunctioning and had to be force synced before being able to create the next links.

In Mijdrecht, Fortifer, End3rw and SirMicrochip had gathered at the grey inner portal, ready to deploy and link. Then suddenly four new blue blockers went up in Amstelveen. After some communication it became apparent we had to resolve this ourselves. SirMicrochip jumped in his car and raced over to remove the links. Within 45 minutes he was back, the path now free for links between Mijdrecht and Heiloo.

Meanwhile back in Dronten, our fielding agents Smokey91 and MunchnetNL had returned from Urk and were ready to continue laying the field. When ENL arrived to destroy the first link they made the smart decision to hide in the bushes and wait it out. After half an hour of tension and whispered Zello messages ENL agents left and we were ready to build the field. Or were we?

At 00:08 the first layer went up, one hour later than planned. However still not all links from Heiloo to Dronten could be made! What was wrong!? A blue blocking link of 49 metres to the north of Lelystad had been missed by everybody. Luckily Hamunatra was quick to drive over and flip it.

Finally at 00:46 the last of the 6 layers from Heiloo were created. Then the other 10 layers from Dronten and Mijdrecht went up fast, completing the onion at 00:51, just before the next checkpoint! Everybody congratulated on a job very well done, with or without glitches.

At 01:14 the inner and outer portals of Heiloo were destroyed by an ENL agent who drove up from Haarlem. This reduced the layer count from 16 to 4. She left the other portals standing until around 3:20, when the field was finally destroyed.

Thanks to all agents who actively participated: Adjudant63, Angara, Ano Niemp, bigpauli, BlueMerle, End3rw, Fortifer, FREEM4N, freubel, Hamunatra, homekruger, Iffel Giffel, Kwinkeleer, liop145, Lordpalf, measy, MunchnetNL, n0m3n, Noppie, oilpink, SAHillie, ScarePT, shinsetsu, SirMicrochip, Smokey91, theBoldHacker, vangekkem, Veritas1970 and all the others who helped as well.

OPS Another big field

Time to create another big field again. Corner portals were Fiets Knooppunt 51 (near Haarlem), Welkom Ibis Schiphol and West - Red Wish Art (Amsterdam near Basisweg). The first two were already linked up and part of another big field towards Schiphol's Bulderbaan. I estimated this field around 15k MU (silly me).

On June 24 I collected keys from the base portals along Schipholweg and was going to make the field, but then the BAF over Europe (Summerbreeze) happened and the plan had to wait.

The next day I left from work at 16:45 and planned my route back home along the S107 (off the A4), clearing a path up through Nieuw-Sloten, Slotervaart and Osdorp. Sadly there were quite some new blockers since the plan's conception, but still a manageable amount.

I had to Jarvis three portals along the way. Sorry to all the proud owners of these. I did not spend time to kill and rebuild them (lazy me) because I was on a tight schedule: home in time for dinner at 18:00.

Eddy8 and Ano Niemp both offered to clear two portals in Osdorp. Finally it was Ano who, after clearing several portals with names very similar to 'Memorial Stone' and 'Meervaart', got the two I needed. Thanks Ano!

MunchnetNL was helping on the intel side of things. He worried me a bit with warnings about blockers but it turned out these were already removed by me, or just about to be removed. Luckily no new blockers went up during this blitzy field operation.

ScarePT was ready at Sloterdijk station to Jarvis the last portal with a blocking link, standing by til the last moment. After I jarvissed 'Rotonde Kabab' I proceeded northwards to the tip of the field, West - Red Wish Art.

OPS Field over Osdorp

On June 3 & 4 2015 I created this 16.890 MU field over Osdorp. It was a single layer field with the corners Amsterdam, West - Spiegelbeeld (Geuzeveld), Arnolduspark (Hoofddorp), Speelplastiek by Josje Smit 1963 (Amsterdam Slotervaart).

The plan started that afternoon:

There are a bunch of P8's in Osdorp. I think I will change my plan and take them down this evening (instead of doing the banner mission 1600)
https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=52.356594,4.79888&z=16
that's 20 P8's right there
Anybody want to help me?
[Fortifer • Jun 3, 2:07 PM]

What I used to do in LM was just put a big field over it.
Make them go to the far away corners.
Though I doubt that will work in Osdorp as the ankers will be close to someone elses hood
[MunchnetNL • Jun 3, 3:20 PM]

Will clear and hack in Hoofddorp, then tonight try to complete the field.
It would be useful if there are people in Osdorp tonight or tomorrow morning to remove the green rubbish if this field succeeds (and stands)
[Fortifer • Jun 3, 4:17 PM]

(later that day... Fortifer killed the P8's at the Osdorp waterfront and sneakily cleared a blocker in the process)

Is roolio here?
